The charge of an angry grizzly bear is one of the scariest sights in nature. The massive bear can run as fast as a racehorse and use its powerful claws to rip away at anything in its way. When the big bear rises on its hind legs, it tops 9 ft. in height.

Jaws & Claws: Powerful teeth and claws help the grizzly shred through any prey. The heavy teeth crunch down to the bone and the claws cut so deep they can kill even large prey in one swat.

Grizzly Express: Enormously muscular legs give the grizzly great speed over rough terrain. It can run up to 35 mph and easily plow through dense undergrowth.

One Hulk of a Bear[]

When the grizzly bear wants to intimidate, it stands tall and roars.

One of the biggest bears in the world, the grizzly is known for its sheer power. When angry, the bear rears up on its hind legs, bares its teeth, lets out a ferocious roar and snaps its jaws shut with tremendous force. When on all fours, it's even more terrifying. A charging grizzly is an almost unstoppable force, capable of killing a full-grown elk with one swat of its claws.

Something in the Air: Grizzlies locate prey primarily through a sharp sense of smell. They can track the scent of food from up to 7 miles away.

Rip It: These bears can be very persistent in their pursuit of food. When grizzlies get a whiff of a meal, they can bite into the metal walls of trailers and rip cars to pieces.

Down by the River[]

  1. Every spring, grizzly bears head to the river to catch some of their favorite prey-schools of migrating salmon.
  2. Swimming upstream, the fish jump from the water to make their trek, but often emerge to face the open jaws of an awaiting grizzly.
  3. With a lunge, the bear grabs its lunch from the stream. Big eaters, grizzlies must store up fat for their winter hibernation.
