If you hang around cemeteries at night, legend has it that you're bound to see a hungry ghoul wander in. These supernatural monsters have a constant craving for rotting human corpses, and a graveyard is like a buffet. Sometimes, ghouls go after the living, using their great strength to rip victims limb from limb.

Gruesome Grub: In modern mythology, ghouls are people whose bodies have been taken over by hungry spirits and given constant cravings, for rotting human flesh, which is why ghouls are often found in graveyards, prying open coffins to get at the bodies inside.

Inner Strength: Ghouls are ghastly creatures with bodies so thin they look like they can be blown over by a gentle breeze. However, these monsters are filled with a supernatural strength that allows them to rip people apart with their bare hands.

Middle Eastern Menace[]

Ghouls Back Image

Ghouls are said to roam cemeteries all over the world.

In ancient Arabian legend, a ghoul was a supernatural creature that wandered the desert, constantly looking to attack anyone who traveled through the barren sands. The strongest part of a ghoul's body was its hands, which the monster used to strangle victims and crush their skulls to get to the victim's brains-a ghoul's favorite food. A human victim's only chance for survival was to strike the beast down with a single blow from his sword. If the person had to strike twice, the ghoul came back to life, even stronger than before!

Boys & Ghouls: In some stories, ghouls can change shape, often taking the form of a beautiful woman. Many men welcomed the sight of such an attractive stranger-until it revealed itself as a ghoul!

The Real Deal: People throughout history have thought that ghouls are real, including Frenchman Alphonse Mabane. In the 19th century, this man found his fiancé in a deranged state, eating the corpse of his recently departed mother!

Ghoul Troubles[]

As night falls, a hungry ghoul enters a cemetery and heads straight for a large crypt. The monster enters the crypt and pries the lid of the nearest coffin off its hinges, eager to chew up the flesh of the rotting corpse inside. Alerted by the noise, the night watchman goes in to investigate, and is horrified to find the ghoul. Fortunately, the ghoul is spooked and runs off, but it may return later.
