Edmontonia lumbered through the prehistoric landscape like a veggie-eating tank. Few predators could attack this beast because it was armored with thick plates, hard spikes and rugged studs that made it impossible to bite through its skin. When attacked, the beast squatted down and waited for the predator to give up.

Eat Your Greens: This dino's soft beaked jaws were made for eating soft plants, such as ferns. Pouches in Edmontonia's cheeks stored chewed food that was swallowed later.

Get Down: Edmontonia's front legs were shorter than its hind legs, so the dinosaur's back stood high and sloped toward the head. This helped the creature stay low to reach short plants and protect its soft underside.

Armor All Over[]

Edmontonia ate in peace while enemies were away.

Edmontonia spent its time grazing on plants and frustrating predators. Studded with bony plates and spikes from head to tail, the dinosaur was a tough nut for attackers to crack. Some would likely end up with a few broken teeth, while more aggressive enemies risked stabbing themselves on one of Edmontonia's spikes.

Slow but Steady: Edmontonia moved slowly-its top speed was 6 miles per hour. The creature relied on its armor for protection since it couldn't outrun enemies.

Oh, Canada: This dino is named after the Edmonton rock formation in Alberta, Canada, where its fossils were found. The area is cold today, but was warm and filled with vegetation 70 million years ago.

Sticking it to Him[]

Slow but steady, a lone Edmontonia trudges through the plains in search of plants to fill its massive stomach. Seeing the plant-eater as a potential meal, an Albertosaurus moves in for an attack. Knowing it can't outrun the predator, the Edmontonia crouches low to protect its vulnerable belly. Just as the Albertosaurus is about to take a bite, Edmontonia lifts itself up and stabs its enemy in the neck.
